Journey School Public Comment Policy

 

Any person may address the Journey School Council on agenda or non-agenda items.  To be recognized by the Council President, an individual must voice their request for the time to speak to matter(s) on the agenda or present new information on an item when the President or Secretary calls for public comment.  The President will announce the person’s name and allow them to speak at the appropriate time.  Each person will be granted up to three minutes to make his or her presentation.  If requested, The President may grant additional time to individuals, circumstances permitting.

 

There are three different times that public comment may occur:

 

1.)      At the time on the agenda for public comment.  This is the only time non-agenda items may be addressed.  Agenda items may also be addressed at this time.

2.)      Following a presentation on agenda items by staff, school committees or the public, the President will recognize members of the public who have submitted items for the agenda.  This period precedes Council discussion and deliberation.

3.)      Formal presentations to the Council by members of the public may be scheduled in advance by notifying the Secretary of the Council no later than two weeks (fourteen days), prior to the Council meeting to coincide with the agenda timeline.  Scheduled formal presentations shall not exceed 15 minutes in duration.

 

The total time for each of these “public comment” opportunities will not exceed 30 minutes unless the Council grants additional time.

 

In addition to the above, the Council may ask a member of the public to answer brief questions or make comments on an agenda item under discussion in order to gather information before deliberating on a decision.
