Handwork is Hands-On

Journey’s third grade curriculum meets the children during their 9-year change by emphasizing practical activities and teaching many of the basic skills necessary for living.  Each year, third graders enjoy washing, carding, spinning and dyeing wool in the handwork block, “Sheep: from fleece to fabric”.  Weaving the beautiful wool ends the school year.

Research shows that working with the hands connects neural networks in ways that pencil and paper activities alone do not, which is why it is important at Journey School for students to have such great “hands-on” experiences.

When projects are complete, handwork students have beautiful work to show for their efforts and a sense of pride for their accomplishments.
