Journey School Campus Cell Phone Policy and Guidelines

One of the most important jobs of parenting is instilling in our kids the values we cherish. We believe that parents choose Journey School for their children because they share our values of providing a developmental approach to learning which builds self-reliance, reverence for life, and responsibility. The gradual introduction to digital technology is a crucial part of instilling these values in our students. We adults are responsible as the elders in the community to model and follow through with these core values.

Our Cell Phone Policy below is aligned with our principles:

Middle School students (Grades 6-8) may bring cell phones onto campus.  With teacher approval, middle school students’ cell phones may be used for emergency purposes or for arranging transportation after school.  Otherwise, cell phones must remain turned off and remain in backpacks or within designated baskets during the school day.

To this end, it is Journey School’s policy that students in Kindergarten-Grade 5 do not bring a cell phone to school. We will help with this follow-through by holding any cell phone that a child inadvertently has brought to school and giving it to his/her parent at the end of the school day. We appreciate your understanding and consideration of this school policy.

Our school handbook suggests the following guidelines as well:

Parents – please use personal cell phones sparingly while on campus. Please note: several areas on campus are cell-phone free zones, including classrooms, kindergarten yard and all garden areas.  Cell phone use is not permitted in these areas at any time.  Cell Phone Free Zone Area signs can also be found near the classrooms and the picnic tables.
