The following Dress Code Policies are in effect for the 2017-2018 academic school year:
SHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS, JACKETS, AND ALL TOPS
- Journey shirts and sweatshirts are recommended.
- Alternatively, shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and all tops that are free of media advertisements and logos may be worn. Inspirational, positive, and non-violent images/phrases are permissible at the discretion of staff members.
- Middle School students (grades 6-8) may wear t-shirts and jackets with band/artists name and related imagery–if inspirational, positive, and non-violent; and are permitted at the discretion of staff members.
- Tops may not have holes, rips, etc.
- Tops and dresses must have shoulder straps at least 1” wide.
- No undergarments may be showing.
PANTS, SHORTS, DRESSES, AND ALL BOTTOMS
- Uniform dresses, skirts, pants and shorts are recommended and can be found at a variety of local stores.
- Alternatively, dresses, skirts, pants and shorts that are free of media advertisements and logos may be worn. Inspirational, positive, and non-violent images/phrases are permitted at the discretion of staff members.
- Dresses, skirts, and shorts may be no shorter than mid-thigh.
- A hole in clothing and/or ripped clothing is permissible as long as there are no holes/rips above the specified length for dresses, skirts and shorts.
- No undergarments may be showing.
HATS
- Hats are acceptable when worn outside.
- Hats must be free of media advertisements and logos. Inspirational, positive, and non-violent images/phrases are permissible at the discretion of staff members.
- Middle School students (grades 6-8) may wear t-shirts and jackets with band/artists name and related imagery–if inspirational, positive, and non-violent; and are permitted at the discretion of staff members.
SHOES
- Footwear must be flat. (No heels, wedges, or wheels. Boots are permissible).
- Sandals must have a heel strap.
- Students must wear athletic shoes or sneakers for games classes.
ACCESSORIES/MAKE-UP/JEWELRY
- Lipstick, tattoos (permanent and temporary) and body piercings, other than ear piercing, are prohibited.
- Stud earrings are allowed in all grades.
- Nail polish is allowed in grade 5 and up.
- Light make-up and hair dye (if school officials consider the proposed color a non-disruption to the educational setting) are allowed in grade 6 and up.
DECORUM AT PRESENTATIONS AND ASSEMBLIES: Students in grades 1-8 must dress in white tops and dark pants/skirts.
Decisions regarding the appropriateness of clothing and accessories (backpacks, lunchboxes, jewelry, etc.) are at the discretion of the Journey School Faculty and Administration.
In case your child arrives at the school dressed inappropriately, we will give you a courtesy call so that you may bring replacement clothes and/or the staff may loan the student appropriate attire to wear for the day.
