Specialty Teacher

Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Responsible for implementing Journey School’s educational program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ø      Valid CA Teaching Credential-if required for specialty

Ø      Experience working with children in a structured setting

Ø      Effective classroom management skills such as organization, discipline and problem solving.

Ø      Certificate in Waldorf  Education as appropriate to specialty  (or other training as outlined in Individual Professional Development Plan )

Ø      Health and Safety Training (Current CPR & First Aid certification, Blood borne Pathogen Training, TB Clearance)

SALARY AND HOURS: Varies according to Specialty position. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Classroom (*):  

1. Implementing Journey School’s Curriculum for their class including:

Ø      Lesson planning

Ø      Learning grade-level curriculum and tailoring it to individual students, as well as the class as a whole

2. Class management including:

Ø      Problem solving and conflict resolution with students

Ø      Age appropriate discipline

Ø      Non-competitive environment

3. Maintain appropriate physical classroom environment including:

Ø      Neatness/ Organization/ Cleanliness

Ø      Age-appropriate material

Ø      Classroom materials appropriate to school curriculum

Ø      Commercial/media free room

Ø      An environment consistent with Waldorf pedagogy


 

4. Assessment of students including:

Ø      Administer and interpret standardized testing as required

Ø      Year end narrative assessments

Ø      Student portfolios

Ø      Other assessments

5. Plan and implement activities outside of the classroom such as:

Ø      School assemblies

Ø      Special events

Ø      End of the year activities

Ø      Field trips, including camping trips for grades 3-8

6. Follow Journey School Health and Safety Policies including:

Ø      Direct supervision of class at all times (unless class is under school approved supervisor)

Ø      Emergency procedures

Ø      Maintain current Health and Safety certifications

Ø      Supervision of parents, volunteers or other adults while with class

Ø      Maintain classroom emergency kits

7.  Provide guided social interaction outside of the classroom

8. Planning and acquiring (when necessary) class supplies within approved budget

9. Keep all necessary administrative records for class

10. Mentoring and cross- teaching as requested and when appropriate to special skills and talents

Ø      Complete required training and certifications as per annually updated Individual Professional Development Plan

Ø      Work with Mentor-Teacher when appropriate

 

3. Attend meetings outside classroom hours as requested/required:

Ø      IEP

4. Conduct Parent-Teacher conferences

 

5. Contribute to evaluation process

 

6. Faculty committee work

 

7. Follow Journey school communication policy
