Ms. Torrey joined the Journey School Faculty in 2011 as a First Grade Teacher. As she reflects upon the year she is very pleased with the cohesive way her students came together as a community of learners. She is especially impressed by the kindness they exhibited towards one another, and she is eager to see this trend continue next year:
“I am excited to share with my students all the wonderful folktales, fables and saints that are part of the 2nd Grade curriculum. There are so many wonderful examples of compassion for our children to follow. I’m also excited about weaving multicultural stories into the learning experience as well.”
Ms. Torrey feels gratitude for all the, “Love, support, and understanding” her parents exhibited while the First Grade Class formed over the course of the year.
Before coming to Journey, Ms. Torrey was employed as a Lead Teacher at the Mariposa Center in Rhode Island. Ms. Torrey earned a BA in Fine Arts from Arcadia University in Pennsylvania—where she was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar. She then attended the University of Pennsylvania’s MA program with a specific focus on Urban Education. Ms. Torrey possesses several teaching credentials, including the California Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential.
Ms. Torrey is now earning her Teaching Certificate and Master’s Degree in Waldorf Education along with colleagues. She is fluent in Spanish and infuses her classroom with multicultural learning opportunities. Away from school, Ms. Torrey loves spending time in nature and has a passion for photography.
