Brandon Wickes

Brandon has been farming organically for the past 14 years, beginning almost immediately after graduating from university with a degree in Environmental Studies.  In his 14 years of farming, Brandon has farmed in California, Oregon, Washington state, New York state, and in Canada.  In 2015, Brandon co-founded a draft horse-powered vegetable and cut flower farm in Washington state, which he co-operated for approximately three years.  In 2017, Brandon made the difficult decision to leave the business behind and relocate to Northern California to be closer to family there.  While in Northern California, Brandon managed a 50-acre diversified vegetable and cut flower operation on the coast.  In 2020, Brandon made yet another challenging decision to relocate to Southern California to be closer to his aging parents, and raise his son near the same beaches he grew up playing and surfing at.  Brandon got his start in education while working at the Ecology Center, educating visitors, young and old, about the basics of Regenerative Organic agriculture.  At the end of 2022, Brandon left his position at the Ecology Center, and shortly after, accepted his new position teaching Gardening at Journey School in early 2023.

In addition to Farming, Gardening, and Cooking, Brandon enjoys surfing, hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, bicycle riding, and skateboarding in his (very limited!) free time.  His current greatest passion and joy in life is introducing his son Hayden to all of these activities.  Hayden is also currently enrolled at Journey School, and is enjoying his first year in the Morning Glory Kindergarten class.”
