Mr. K’s 17th has been a Waldorf main lesson teacher for nearly 20 years. He came to Waldorf Education not as a parent but as a teacher. He was teaching 5th and 6th grade environmental education in the redwoods above Santa Cruz and wanted to move into the classroom but wasn’t so sure about what was happening in public education in Santa Clara County at that time. He started his Waldorf Teacher Training in a part time program in Marin at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Education, and finished his Waldorf teacher training at a full time program in Sydney Australia in 2005. Mr. K moved back to California and took his first class in September of 2006.

He spent his first 11 years at the Waldorf School of San Diego where he took a class from grades 1-8. He spent a year as a support teacher and then took another class from first grade until the end of second grade.  Mr. K then joining the Willow Tree Charter School, at that time a small Waldorf inspired charter school,  in North County San Diego where he picked up a 5th grade class. He stayed with that class until the end of 6th grade, and then spent the 2019/2020 school year teaching 3rd grade at Willow Tree, which is now a private Waldorf Inspired school.

In addition to teaching, Mr. K has worked part time at a surf shop in his hometown of Oceanside for the past three summers. Together, he and his wife Kristi are the happy parents of a blended family of three children (aged 13, 14 and 11).  Whenever possible, Mr. K  loves being outside surfing, running, biking, golfing, building things, paddle boarding and relaxing. Mr. K grew up in the small town of Windsor, Nova Scotia Canada with his parents (a doctor and a nurse)  and his older sister (also a nurse). He left Canada after university  in 1998 to take a job as a park ranger in Vermont.
