Thanks for Lighting Our Journey: A Briefing from the Journey School Foundation

Dear Journey School Friends & Partners,
As we wrap up 2013-14, which marks the 2nd year of the revitalized Journey School Foundation, we thank you for your generous support of Journey School and for the amazing opportunities you make possible for students. This year our community raised over $112,000 in monetary donations and more than $88,000 in in-kind donations; allowing us to apply for the $150,000 match made available by the generous McGee family. Additionally, we connected with more than 150 new non-parent donors and community partners through “Light Our Journey” year-end campaign and began accepting stock donations. These achievements enable many others the ability to actively participate in our passion and support of the school, its mission and its students. And, the Oak and the Acorn, Journey’s new store, netted over $10,000 in its first full year of operation.

In addition to the McGee Family, I would like to specifically thank Amy Capelle, Rosanna Coveyou, Michelle Spieker, Sue Ann Gonis, and Diana Graber for donating their time, talent and financial support to these formative years of the foundation. I also would like to express my gratitude to Johanna Young and Brad Southard and Ruth Scott, for giving their time to launch and maintain the Oak and the Acorn store–and for creating a warm gathering place to learn, share and relax together.

Next year, we look forward to a continued emphasis on the development of non-parent donors and corporate partners and expanding our base of support. We are delighted that Shaheer Faltas has agreed to spend 75% of his time, beginning next year, in support of fundraising. We believe that Journey School could not have a more qualified, passionate person to represent the school in these important interactions. We are also eager for October 10th and 11th when we will launch the Educating the Whole Child in the Digital Age Conference, building on the momentum of the 2013 Green Ribbon award to maximize support for students. Hang on, it will be another exciting year!

There are many other Council members, teachers, parents, prior parents, grandparents, family members, and community partners who donated their time, talent and capital to make all of this possible. With upmost appreciation and gratitude, we thank you all.
