We’re Better Together: Volunteer & Visitor Guidelines, 2014-2015

Dear Journey School Families and Friends:

As highlighted at Back to School Night, the Journey staff is lucky. We serve 402 bright, compassionate students in partnership with 275 dedicated families and dozens of generous community partners. It’s an exciting time at Journey and we thank you for your service.

In light of our growth and initiatives, the time has arrived to make prudent adjustments to volunteer and visitor protocols. We need to ensure student safety, emergency preparedness, and successful volunteer experiences.

Volunteer/Visitor Guidelines

Please read the Volunteer Handbook on the school website. Then, complete and return the Volunteer Application (p. 9) and Volunteer Statement and Agreement (p.15) to the office.

If you can, swing by the Development Office on Wed., 9/24 from 8:00-2:00 for our Volunteer Drive. We’ve arranged free fingerprinting for

field trip chaperones, drivers, and all Tier I Volunteers (see pg. 4 of handbook)

On 9/24, you will also be able to…

  • Sign-up to volunteer at your favorite school or class events
  • Learn more about Parent University
  • Register your student for aftercare classes or lunches
  • Join us for a BBQ on the front lawn, 12:30-1:30 (RSVP by 9/22 and bring drinks)
  • Participate in fun drawings
  • Journey students can play supervised games on the backfield, 12:30-2:00.
  • For those of you who can’t pull away from work, we have a tentative make-up day on Thursday, Oct 2 from 4-6pm (before Parent University) for another chance to receive free fingerprinting.

Finally, when visiting campus (excludes student drop-off/pickup) remember to…

  • Sign-in at the office or designated station
  • Wear the name badge you are provided
  • Honor learning time…no classroom interruptions and avoid early pullouts

Thanks for continuing the tradition of strong parent involvement at Journey. If we can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us. For volunteer opportunities, visit the Parent Cabinet (PC) website or talk to your class representatives.

Onwards and Upwards!
